Huntington Beach has been experiencing a bit of May-gray, but our forecast is calling for lots of sunshine and you’ll be ready with this delicious Mint Julep. Although Mint Juleps are most often associated with the Kentucky Derby and served in frosted silver or pewter cups, we like to add our crushed ice to a chilled rocks glass and enjoy them throughout all of Summer.
The best thing about the Mint Julep is how each sip is slightly different than the last. As the crushed ice melts, the strong & boozy cocktail turns into a refreshing summer sipper. Feel free to have fun with the recipe and change up the sweetener to maple syrup, crème de cacao, or sweet liquor.
2-1/2oz Pierside Bourbon
1/2oz Simple syrup
4-5 Mint sprigs
Gently muddle about half of your mint leaves. You want to release the minty flavor from the veins, but do so gently so as not to tear or bruise your mint. Tough muddling will cause your mint to taste more vegetal and could ruin your delicious cocktail.
Next, add your simple syrup & Pierside Bourbon. Stir to mix all 3 ingredients together.
Add half of the crushed ice and stir to mix.
Top with the rest of your crushed ice and garnish with the rest of your mint sprigs.
Enjoy in the sunshine and allow the crushed ice to slowly melt and transform every sip.
