Southern California is the perfect place for year-round grilling. You know what that means: backyard chillin’ – and sippin’! We decided to whip up a SCSW BBQ recipe that uses our very own Pierside Bourbon Whiskey, and we’re positive that it’ll add some serious pizazz to whatever you feel like tossing on the grill. We’ll drink – and eat – to that!
1/2 onion (yellow or red)
4 garlic cloves
3/4 c. Pierside Bourbon Whiskey
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tbsp. salt
2 c. ketchup
1/4 c. tomato paste
1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp. liquid smoke flavoring
1/4 c. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/3 tsp. hot sauce (or more, to taste)
Prepare your onion and garlic by finely dicing both.
In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the onion, garlic, and whiskey.
Simmer for 10 minutes, or until the onion is translucent.
Mix in the rest of the ingredients, keeping your heat at a simmer.
Once homogenous, bring to just a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.
Simmer for 20 minutes.
Run the sauce through a strainer if you prefer a smooth sauce.
If you have time to prepare ahead of time, allow the sauce to sit in the fridge for 1-2 days for the perfect blend of flavors.
Use as a dipping sauce or lather on your favorite BBQ meats and vegetables.
Enjoy – with a recommended glass of our Pierside Bourbon Whiskey on the side!
Yields about 3 cups (24 ounces) of sauce. Store in an airtight container and use within about 10 days.
